**VERSION 10 INSTALLATION CHECKLIST**
12/3/2007 - RDP supports the current version of Pervasive (V10.x) and the prior version
(V9.x). For existing customers, the upgrade to V9.x or 10.x significantly increases
the performance of the system. See RDPWin
Version 2 for details.
Resort Data Processing (RDP) uses the Pervasive.SQL database from Pervasive
Software, one of the fastest and most reliable client-server databases
available. We recently have improved the performance of our products by using
the ODBC features of Pervasive Version 9 and higher. As a result all customers
must use Pervasive Version 9 or higher by 1/31/2008 or the RDP SYSTEM WILL STOP
FUNCTIONING.
To check your version of Pervasive, start the RDP-DOS or RDPWin system. The
Pervasive Version appears on the login screen. If your version is less than 9.xx,
you must call Rita Gale (970-845-1143) at RDP immediately to order an upgrade
to avoid a system stop on 1/31/2008.
The table below summarizes the Pervasive Version
requirements.
| Current Pervasive Version | Pervasive Upgrade Required |
|---|---|
| New Customers | New customers should purchase Pervasive Version 10 for Windows Servers from RDP. |
| V7.x or less | RDPWin Version 2 does not start with Pervasive Version 7.x or less. All customers with Version 7.xx or less must upgrade to Pervasive Version 10.x prior to updating to RDPWin Version 2. |
| V8.x | RDPWin Version 2 will be supported until 1/31/2008 with Pervasive V8.x. However, the performance benefits of ODBC access will not be fully active. After 1/31/2008, RDPWin Version 2 will not start with Pervasive V8.x. All customers with Pervasive V8.x can update to RDPWin Version 2 immediately but must upgrade to Pervasive Version 10.x by 1/31/2008. |
| V9.x or V10.x | RDPWin Version 2 is designed for Pervasive V9.x or V10.x. Customers with V9.x DO NOT need to upgrade to V10.x. Full performance benefits of ODBC access are available in both V9.x and V10.x. |

The Pervasive Database has a client component and a server component. When upgrading, you should always uninstall the old version of Pervasive first (using Pervasive System analyzer), reboot, and then install the new version of Pervasive.
Upgrading to Pervasive Version 10.xx can be done without calling RDP support.
Note: All users must exit RDP during the upgrade,
including the IRM and all interface workstations.
Schedule this installation at a time when the system can be down for
approximately 4 - 8 hours AND when RDP support is open. RDP 24-hour
support is not available for Pervasive Updates.

NOTE: The PSQL Workgroup engine is only needed for installations where a single user workstation will be running RDP. All other machines including the IRM, interface computers and RDPWin workstations can run on the PSQL V.10 client (service) installation

As of 1/1/2002, RDP stopped supporting Novell NetWare. All RDP customers currently using Novell NetWare data servers should convert to a Windows 2003 data server as soon as possible. See Six Reasons to Convert from Novell or Windows NT to Windows 2003.
RDP's property management system and the Pervasive.SQL V10 database require all workstations (clients) to use Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista (Business or Ultimate). RDP does not support clients running any version of DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT Workstation, Windows 2000, Linux, Unix, etc. See RDP Hardware Requirements for more details.
The RDP property management system can be accessed by remote locations using Citrix software or Windows 2003 Terminal Services. Each workstation connected to a Citrix or Windows 2003 Server, either remotely or via a thin-client connection, requires one Pervasive license. It is important to Install Pervasive as a Service on Citrix or Terminal Servers.
A document authored by Pervasive instructs on
Tuning Pervasive's Performance. Pervasive Version 10 also offers this
information in the documentation under the heading “Performance Tuning.”
The article makes several good points. It can also be accessed on any
computer where Pervasive is installed under Start | Programs | Pervasive |

WARNING: Changes to the
pervasive settings can be dangerous. Do not make changes to these settings
without the guidance of Pervasive or RDP support.
